The Day I Became a GuruSo, for a while now, almost 2 years, I have been entering photo contests with the goal to become a Photo Guru per the standards set by GuruShots, an online platform where photographers from all over the world compete in a mix of photographic skills as well as game strategy. One of the greatest things about GuruShots is that is not easy to achieve the elusive Guru status. You start as a Newbie and work through the levels and challenges to climb all the way to the top. There are a total of 9 levels right now, and with each step up the ladder, your voting power also increases. Each step up the ladder gets harder and harder, and the last one, the one that makes you a Guru is the hardest. You have to receive at least 5 Guru Picks, which are given to you by other Guru's for entering a photo to their contests that clearly matches the vision they had for their contest. Also you need to have achieved the top status, All Star, in at least 30 challenges. Additionally you need to have 150,000 GS points, which are accumulated by entering in challenges, getting good results, etc. And, the ultimate accomplishment, win a challenge, be Numero Uno. I, after a long time of studying the game side, and constantly working to improve my own photography skills, finally achieved the Top Photo Award, by receiving the most votes for my photo. Much like a "Peoples Choice" award. Here's a link to the challenge itself where you can see My Winning Photo as the #1 top photo as well as me as the #8 ranked photographer from a pool of 28,092 photographers from all over the world that collectively gave a total of about 20 million votes. So yes, I'm finally a Guru, as of June 10th of 2019!
